UK City Break for Anniversay

Hi All,

Hubby and I want to go for a short break in the UK for our wedding anniversary in June but I'm not sure where.

We love York and would happily visit again but I quite fancy somewhere new. We like places with history and lots to do. Some nice bars/restaurants a must.

Ideally a city we can park up when we arrive and not need the car again.

We are off to Whitby with friends later this month so that's not an option.

We live in Derby so we are pretty much central to go in any direction. Would also consider Wales/Scotland too.

Thanks in advance guys!

York, Chester or Bath. As you have done York lets rule that out.

I would opt for Bath.

Chester would be my choice. Lots of history, nice eating places and shops. Plus there’s Chester zoo and Cheshire oaks. We go every year for a one night stay.

A lot of people think Chester is going downhill. We don’t shop there any more. BHS closed, half of M&S closed, Debenhams is iffy. It does not get as busy as it once did ☹️

Liverpool is interesting and very diverse. I think it would be a good choice. A couple of Dibbers have “done” Liverpool. I wonder what they thought of it.

I was going to suggest Bath too. The spa baths would be a lovely thing to do on your anniversary. Lots of nice restaurants.

Edinburgh is probably my favourite city in the world and so much to do, so if you haven't been there its a must! Again plenty of history, things to do and nice places to eat.

London ? You would need to find a hotel with parking but that’s likely to be on the outskirts.

Could you take the train ?

It may be further than you had in mind but I really want to visit Belfast - you can fly with Easyjet from Manchester, which isn't far from you?

Edinburgh - you can stay on the outskirts and leave your car as there is a tram system in and out of the city.
