Mobile Arriving back in U.K. on GCSE results day

Hi all,

I know that it’s wise to be home for exam results (particularly in the case of A-levels and university offers), but I was wondering how important it is for GCSE results?

I’m just wondering if it would be ok if we arrived back in the country on results day? It would mean we wouldn’t be there first thing in the morning to collect the results from the school, but would they just post them and they’d be through the letterbox by the time we drove home from the airport in the afternoon?

We wouldn’t leave it any later than results day to get back, as I noticed that some college interviews seem to take place the day after the results come out.

Any information much appreciated 👍

It didn’t affect us - though I’m talking 10 years ago. I was there for my results by my best friend at the time wasn’t, they were in the Dominican Republic (not even due back that day). She was going to sixth form at school so no issues with interviews. They school either allowed someone else to collect them - written permission etc etc. Or would post.

If anything like my kids schools they wouldn't post them out.

All their friends will be discussing grades etc over social media - which may make them.feel a bit isolated.

I can say all this because I completely hashed it up and we were away for GCSEs three years on the trot. Then AS levels. ☺️

If you don't collect them they post them later that day so you'll have to wait a day or two to receive them. I'd go and collect them (it was a big part of the results going in on results day for my son last year).

We are landing back this year on the 15th August, A level results day. My daughter will probably get the emails whilst we are in the airport waiting for the luggage.

You can nominate somebody to go pick the GCSE results up for you or depending on the flight time and distance from airport you may be back in time to get them. My children's school yr 11 go in and then yr 10 can go in after 10 am to pick their results up.

My daughter's college had their enrolment in the afternoon of GCSE results day, she picked up her results at school in the morning and a couple of hours later she was at college with them.

Thank you everyone - we could fly back the day before, I was just trying to see if I could eek out an extra day, as we are thinking of going to Hawaii and it would be the difference between a day’s stopover on the way back or flying straight home.

But if it’s viewed as an important day, I guess I wouldn’t want him to miss it - I really can’t remember collecting mine at all! Lol!

My DD did a few GCSEs in Year 10 and we were landing back on the morning of results day.

We had to have it agreed with the school beforehand but my mother was able to pick up her results for her.

We were in Florida when it was my DS GCSE results day, the school wouldn’t give them to anyone else, so they were posted and they were waiting for him when we arrived home.

He definitely felt that he missed out on celebrating with his friends on results day.
