We stayed in Port St Lucie a few years ago and it's a lovely area.
You're close to various lovely Atlantic coast beaches, and you can visit some really nice smaller attractions such as the Florida Oceanographic Society Coastal Center - floridaocean/coastal-center, take in some Minor League Baseball at the St Lucie Mets - milb/st-lucie (they even have a tiki bar in the stadium where you can sit, drink and watch the game!).
