Mobile Sun tan lotion, Discovery Cove?

Hi, we are going to Discovery Cove for the 1st time, can we take our own sun tan lotion with us, as we don't want to miss out on the sunbathing as well 👍

They supply animal friendly suntan lotion in big pump dispenser bottles around the park.

No, you can’t use your own at discovery cove, you use the lotion provided.

I recall on a previous thread that someone checked with DC as someone in their party was very sensitive to some sunscreen ingredients. You can take your own if needed, but they much prefer you to use the sunscreen they provide, and it is easily available at various locations in DC, rather than having to keep going back to your locker etc

We were there 2 days ago. They do still have the big pump dispensers, however when one of our group asked they were told it was fine to use their own. We asked a second person who said the same, so it seems to be fine.

I wish I'd used my own... my arms both burnt and it was super painful. I blistered and everything and had to spend the rest of my water park days in a t shirt as their cream just wasn't strong enough for me despite frequent application. I do believe they also offer a factor 50 that you have to ask for so if using theirs my tip would definitely be to see if you can get the 50!x

I'm sorry but this is incorrect.

Although they provide it, you're not obliged to use it (they don't force it as some people are allergic or want to use a higher factor).

We used it on our trip, and although it is very thick, found it quite poor at providing protection, so if you do use it, apply it regularly.

I would imagine they prefer you use theirs given the animal friendly nature, but not mandated.

We thought you had to use theirs when we went in 2016 and 2018 but got badly burnt using it in 2018. This year we just used our own after realising it wasn’t compulsory to use what they provide - and no burns this time!

Ive always used my own at discovery cove, I want to know exactly what I’m wearing and I find the discover cove lotion to be very very thick and gloopy and not of a gd quality but I think it’s cause of the ingredients in it as it’s meant to be very animal friendly

I think it's fine and offers good protection - BUT it's one of those that needs to be reapplied frequently, so if you're used to the 8 hour creams or the once-a-day ones then you're going to get burned Remember you're in the water most of the time so it really needs topping up every 1.5 hours at the very least.
