What would you do?

Hi, we have our trip booked for 5 weeks time. It was supposed to be myself, DH, DS as well as my mum and dad and the trip was to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary. Heartbreakingly my darling mum passed away very suddenly 💔

I really don't know what to do about the trip - do we go and feel guilty that we are there without her or cancel? What would you do?

I would go, it’s going to be easier said than done... but take the time to celebrate her with your dad and family. Hope you’re all okay and coping as best that anyone can in such a horrible situation 😔

Sorry to hear about your mum. If it is still practical and possible for you to go, I would go. Your mum wouldn't want you to miss out. It will be hard but go and make amazing memories, and do something special to remember her. Good luck with your decision x

So very sorry about your mum. Is your dad still going with you. I think I would take the lead from him and then decide. If you are going to feel guilty about going then you could always postpone for a while. I’m sure you know what your mum would want you to do.
All the best with making your decision.

I’m so sorry about your mum.

What does your dad want to do? If he’s prepared to go, it could be a chance for you all to have some time away from every day life, spending time together and remembering her. It will make it a different kind of holiday - maybe more chill time and less dashing around, but it could still be a very special time and a very much needed chance for all of you to spend time together. I’m sure that your mum would still want you all to go, but I can understand that that’s easier said than done.

Thank you all for the positive replies. At the moment my heart is broken and can't imagine being in Disney without my mum, she loved it as much as I do. I had so many surprises planned to celebrate their anniversary.

Dad changes his mind from day to day, he really does not know what h wants to do.

So sorry to hear your sad news.

It is a hard decision but I think you should go if you can. We went in 2017 after we lost both my dad and DH’s dad within 3 months of each other. My dad was after a long illness but FIL was very sudden and unexpected...

We did feel guilty sometimes but kept reminding ourselves that our dads would have wanted us to try and enjoy the holiday and we really needed a break by that time...

Sending you a virtual hug at this tough time...

Dad changes his mind every day, he is beyond devastated. They have been together their whole adult life and only spent a handful of nights away from each other in 50 years.
