We love Portugal. It is our favourite European destination. We have stayed in Lagos a couple of times and also Burgau which is about 15 minutes away from Lagos. Fabulous beaches, lovely food and street entertainment on the cobbled streets in the evening. We always had beautiful weather and it is also only a short flight.
It is about an hour or so away from the airport so you would need a car. It seems a lot more of a real place than Vilamoura.

We like carvoeiro, nice and quiet for us, not enough going on for teenagers and activities though. As already commented , Lagos I'm told is nice, lad at work raves about it. If your into watersports I guess the west coast of Portugal is good for that as it's generally windy, big waves etc.

We went to Tavira / cabanas area this summer. Large penthouse apartment, fast WiFi. Didn't really see the older two 21/19 as either on WiFi or in "town". Youngest in pool all the time.
I liked Tavira. But then we don't like beaches so much and are pool people. Few days in Seville, bit of kayaking.
Nice, but doesn't beat Greece for us. Next year fancy lefkas earning to windsurf!

Cheap easyJet flights to Faro reasonable and carhire (drive4fun) excellent £500 ISH for two weeks. Bought excess cover separately before we went though as was pricey in airport otherwise.

We stayed at Monte Gordo when we visited the Algarve. Beautiful long sandy beach and seafront. Nice laid back atmosphere with good restaurants and bars, nice mix of traditional and a few British bars (not enough to make it a Blackpool with sun resort though 😂 )

We go a lot, whilst a more modern resort we like Villamora the best.

We have been to Portugal quite a few times now and have always stayed in Vale do Lobo, Vilamoura or Quarteira. Lots to do for kids and adults plus being 3 of the closest resorts to Faro airport

We have been to Portugal many times, we love it there. We have stayed at Olhos de Agua quite a few times. A lovely little place with Albufeira just a short taxi ride away for the kids to get their activity fix.
