Mobile Urgent advice needed re baggage

If I book the basic economy price for flights, can I then add baggage on for 1 traveller later on with BA? We don’t all need hold baggage so I don’t want to pay the standard economy price for all 4 of us when we usually only take 2 suitcases.

Yes, you can either add it on online before you fly, or pay (possibly rather more) at the airport.

Don't forget that baggage is added per flight, so if you add baggage on the outbound make sure you do the same for the inbound.

Thank you for this - even if we book 2 cases each way it still works out cheaper for us than booking the premium economy which includes hold bags.

If you do this, it’s cheaper to buy one bag each for two travellers than it is to buy two bags for one traveller. This is because BA charges a higher price per bag for the second/third etc bag per person. Baggage prices do vary, but I think it’s usually £5 extra per bag if you add them at the airport rather than online in advance.

When calculating the saving, do also bear in mind that basic economy tickets do not permit any choice of seat, even at check in (unless you qualify for seat selection by another means, such as frequent flyer status, travelling with an infant, or disability). You would be allocated seats and would have to pay to change them to any other available seats. This may or may not bother you.

Pod you mean world traveler plus if so of course it does as it is a totally different product and the extra bag is only part of the difference.

No there’s a basic economy which includes hand luggage only and normal economy which includes one 23kg hold bag. It was 70pp more for the hold baggage ticket. So we’ve booked basic and will just add one piece of luggage on at a later date if needed so worked out cheaper for us.

I think Sew was referring to post #3 in which you mentioned it was cheaper than premium economy. Premium economy is a separate cabin class somewhere between economy and business.
