Thank you again for the great ideas! Jekyll Island does look beautiful...just did a search. DH not sure about going north on this trip due to being the driver constantly, but I think we have decided to do south Florida this trip and north next trip. I didn’t realise there was so much north of Orlando ☺️
So, so far we have 4 nights in Islamorada followed by a night in Tavernier Key Largo for a specific activity. Then we have 3 nights booked on Lover’s Key. We chose this over Naples and Marco Island in the end, due to price. I really wanted to stay on the beach, not a drive away and the prices were steep for both. We are however going to go to Marco Island for the day. I’m not sure whether to just get on up to Orlando then as costs are adding up quickly! Plus all the excursions we want to do. 🤔 Thanks again all!

Certainly don’t write off Northern Florida permanently.
Both Pensacola and Destin are awesome. Even New Orleans is only a 3 Hour drive from Pensacola and that is past the USS Alabama park at Mobile. You can fly in to either Pensacola or Destin via Atlanta. We drove a ribbon route from Pensacola taking in Mobile (return), Destin, Tampa, Orlando, then out at Daytona Beach. Flights from London at Easter School Hols were £435pp in 2017

Oh no, we wouldn’t write it off. Some of the places you’ve named and previous posters have named look absolutely beautiful. DH is the driver and whilst he wants to see different places, he doesn’t want to spend his entire holiday driving. Having said that, the north looks in some ways more ‘us’. We’ve already booked so much south that we’ll stick with it and definitely do the north next year. Flying into an airport that way sounds like a good shout. There also seems to be a lot in the way of nature parks and springs, which we are keen to see.
I wish we lived there, I really do. There is just so much about the place isn’t there! |

If you fancy a stop on the way to Orlando, Bradenton has some cheaper accommodation for easy access to Sarasota and AMI. We've averaged £100.49 a night for our 28 nights (2 adults, 2 teens), and that includes 2 rooms per night in both The Keys and Homestead.
