Mobile Buying second hand car

My cars well over 110k miles and a petrol so Im not expecting it to last loads longer before a major incident/repair. New job puts heavy motorway miles on it now.

Budget only about £4k to keep monthly amounts Down And obvs looking for diesel

My question is, is there a good Month to get a better deal

Dec?
Jan?

Do they struggle. For sales in Jan?

I assume the car supermarkets dont alter prices throughout year.

Hope that makes sense.

I wouldn't be getting a diesel in the current political climate, they are looking to hammer diesel owners for Levy's all over the place. Petrol is the best option until they decide what to do

In complete agreement, OH is a master tech and won’t go near a diesel esp now due to comments above and 4x4 we got last year is petrol.

Actually OH now works for Tesla, modal 3 have some good deals for finance in UK now apparently.

Deals more likely to come up round end of quarters to boost sales figures so Dec might not be a bad time too try.

Depends what car it is but probably keep it.
Could easily hit 200k motorway miles.

No idea when the best time to buy is but definitely think big changes are coming to get diesels off the road.

Not sure where a £4k budget fits into buying Tesla's or even nearly new from main dealers who work in quarters due to quotas imposes from the manufacturer.

If you are doing longer motorway miles and not going into major.cities like London, Manchester etc who have or may apply levies then a diesel makes perfect sense.

What size of car are you looking for?

Not midsize but I have just bought a 16 plate hyundai i10.

Full service history, 1 owner, fresh MOT, 20,000 miles for £4495. I part exchanged my care for £1000.

There are some good deals around but it can sometimes just take a little patience and lots of looking.

You will likely get a better deal in December than a January
January is typically a strong sales month in the car sales industry
People tend to have Christmas on their mind rather than car buying in December
The impact of Brexit on the used car market is unclear though

Any month is a good month at the moment. Most dealers are struggling to sell there stock. There's plenty of cars in the 4 k bracket but also plenty of duff ones been part exchanged. In that price range, I would be very careful buying a diesel as repairs can be very expensive ( quite easily outstripping any fuel economy benefits compared to petrol)
Quite alot of dealers now set the price on the forecourt and won't budge.
Focus and Mazda 3 used the same Peugeot 1.6 diesel engine and had lots of problems.
