Yes but there are correct policies to follow in those situations that are nothing to do with age. I've seen young people who cant use a computer properly.

Not sure why it reports an out of court settlement as she clearly won her case and therefore most likely has been awarded compensation.

She looks great for 89, and obviously still in good health with her faculties. Hope i'm as fortunate. But equally hope I'm long retired by that age!

I don’t think I will ever be able to afford to retire, however if I could I think I would chose to retire at 70. My parents retired early and they are nothing but grumpy, irritated by everything and the difference in their brains (memory for example) has gone downhill, purely because it isn’t being used as much. I don’t want to end up like that. I want to stay sharp!

There are lots of ways to stay both physically and mentally active in retirement. I do quite a bit of voluntary work (Ciitizens Advice, school governor, charity trustee) but the beauty of it is, I can take holidays when, and for how long, I want.
There is no need to stagnate in retirement if you don’t want to.

Everyone is different, you can only judge for yourself. No lower or upper limit, just when you can afford to.
If people can afford to but don’t, that’s up to them but don’t understand it myself. Maybe I wil when I’m older 👍

While the woman in the article shouldn’t have been subject to insults at work, I think there’s more to the story than the article suggests...computers have been extremely commonplace for the last twenty years. You can’t work in an organisation like the NHS without them. If she was incapable of keeping up she should have bowed out gracefully and let a younger person take her job. It’s selfish of her to do otherwise, particularly if her mistakes affected patients.

It’s such a hard question. I had an amazing lady that worked for me, she was 77 and came in for two, four hour shifts per week (retail work) and she was part of the fixtures and fittings. We had lots of chats and she didn’t need the money; she needed something to leave the house for. She was perfectly competent to do her job, both mentally and physically. On the flip side, I had to go through the formal dismissal process for a member of staff with failing eyesight in her 60’s. We both knew she would be ‘managed out’ but there weren’t any other jobs for her to switch to.

We don’t have a mortgage so we’re in a lovely position where either me or hubby could leave our jobs if we really wanted to. I enjoy my job but quite often I have to remind hubby that he could give his notice when he’s having a bad week/month. He doesn’t leave as he does feel rewarded for what he does (he’s a teacher) but it feels hard at the end of a working day.

I think that if you leave work too young and don’t have hobbies or interests or even grandchildren to look after then it’s hard to be mentally or physically stimulated and you age much quicker.
