Mobile First Holiday with a baby

Hi All,
Myself and my partner have been to Florida about 10 times now but we now have a little boy together and we’re thinking of taking him in May, he would be 17 months old. I’ve been looking at direct flights with TUI and thinking of staying in a villa again, so I’m looking for any advice about flying/holiday with a baby. Is it best to take our own car seat and buggy? Are we best to book our plane seats in advance? Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks in advance

Pros and cons of taking your own car seat.
Pro -
You can take to the gate.
They take you through the oversized (normally fast) lane at security UK leg.
Save on approx $100 hire fee.
Somewhere for little one to chill at the airport.
Con -
Always that risk of it being damaged in the hold with no compensation due.
Another thing to fit in the hire car with all the luggage.

We have done both. It’s always a bit of a worry having your £300 stroller at the mercy of the ‘throwers’.
Last time we bought a £25 redkite for the airport and hired a baby jogger mini city over there.
It took so long for our cheap stroller to arrive when we returned home we just left it.

Car seat, same issues.
We have always taken our own though. When Brody was 16 months we bought the Halfords basic seat for £40 and took that with us.

A 17 month old on your lap can be quite an ordeal over 8 hours so with TUI I’d recommend paying for extra legroom. This gives lots of space.

Check out episode 2 of the Great British Mickey Waffle Podcast.
I do a section on travelling with babies and young children. Some real gems of info there.

If budget stretches I would booking an extra seat and using your car seat for your child to sit in. We did it with United, not sure if TUI let you do this.
