2015 was extremely hot (locals were telling us it was much hotter than normal). Crowds were definitely heavier than in 2011.
We're now tied to school holidays so we'll be experiencing August for the first time this year!
That's a good point re the weather, I'll check out the average temps. We found this October to be a lot hotter than we expected it to be, but I think that was the case across the board last year. We coped though, just adjusted our days so we were in the parks early or late, so as to avoid the hottest part of the day. It worked well.

I've always been in September/October before, next time we are going for End Apr/beg of May, a) it's closer, b) no hurricane risk, which was a big consideration on our last trip, c) not doing Disney so slightly more people around shouldn't affect us too much

I have been February, April / May and September.

Weather was most pleasant in February, mid to late 20c with low humidity, however it was the worst of the three for crowds. Couldn’t get fourth fastpasses in Hollywood Studios or Animal Kingdom.

September was the best for crowd levels but (for us) the worst weather as it was very hot and humid and we had to change how we normally plan our days.

April / May is the happy medium for us, a marginal second best for crowds and also second best for weather.
