WE first eat in an Outback back in 2000 and have eaten in many around Florida and have generally been happy although we have had a few misses. The Outback at Formosa Gardens was at one time the 'go to place', but over the last few years the standard has dropped off. We still go at least once for sentimental reasons.

Also like Longhorns and Manny's.

I've followed this thread since the beginning but my 74Th birthday was only last Thursday so didn't feel qualified to comment until now.

On the Poll thread YorkshireT summed up things pretty accurately so I suggest going to that post for common sense.

If you receive a meal, in a USA steakhouse, then complain and you will have things put right.

If you want top class steak go to somewhere like Ruths Chris.

If you want to tell the kitchen how to prepare the steak then save money and eat at home.

All the places mentioned in this thread are capable of serving a good steak meal. Why not go to all of them.

Out of those two? It has to be Texas Roadhouse!

We've tried outback but just didn't get on with it. Always went to Longhorns. We ended up having a few poor meals at Longhorns (I Drive) then found Texas Roadhouse. Since then we've not been back to Longhorns.

Sure TR is a bit more rough round the edges but the quality of the meat is great. I've had some excellent steaks there.

Best of all is the price (and bread & nuts).
We can get a family of 4 fed on $80 and that's including starters, mains and tip.
They do a happy hour type menu. Can't remember the name of it. From memory its like an $8 menu that has smaller steaks on it but that's fine for the kids as the portions are more than enough.
Their fried pickles are also immense! Lots of people rave about the blooming onion. Looks good but tasted too greasy for us.

Sorry to derail your thought process but for us we'd never go back to Outback, would maybe give Longhorns a shot again but always look forward to visiting TR once or twice on every visit.

Disagree on telling kitchen how to prepare it. That should be customer choice, paying customers.
Outback was poor three separate occasions, three separate locations. No excuse for not hearing and understanding its patrons.

You misunderstand me. I'm not referring to the choice of rare, medium etc but some people who want to tell the kitchen how to season or what method to use..

If you ask for blue and it is not served that way all steakhouses will try again. Sometimes things do go wrong.

Bear in mind that all the chain steakhouses mentioned here only serve the lowest grade of steak.
