Mobile How long to explore Florida Keys? Things to do?

Morning Dibbers,

We have moved our cancelled August 2020 cruise to August 2021, departing from Miami. We have set aside 3 days to explore Miami before the cruise, and prior to that we have 6 days to drive and explore the keys. Does that seem a good amount of time? Any recommendations of things to do or see whilst there?

Thanks all

I guess it’s like anywhere, you can spend as much or as little time as you have!

We plan to go for 3 days, although I know we won’t do everything we would like to.

We plan to go fishing, feed the tarpon at Robbies, explore Key West, go snorkelling, visit the deer refuge, look at the turtles in the turtle hospital, drive over the 7 mile bridge and enjoy some R&R in the beautiful surroundings.

We are planning to tack on The Keys to our 2022 holiday and have put aside 5 days. I was thinking 2 nights Key Largo, 1 night Key West and 2 nights Marathon but not sure if that’s the right amount of time in each place. There seems to be so much to see and do I don’t think 5 nights will be enough!

Thirty years ago we drove down to Key West and spent a day exploring. No idea if these things still happen but we did the conch train tour, had a drink in Sloppy Joe’s, Hemingway’s watering hole, ate key lime pie, visited Hemingway’s House with his six toed cats and best of all did the sunset cruise from Mallory Quay which was a vibrant night time place back then.

We did 5 days last summer and only scratched the surface. Would go back in a heartbeat for a week and be adventurous about moving around a bit more to different hotels on the keys
