What camera to get
Hubby is looking to get a new Nikon camera.
It will be an investment for his hobby but he needs it to serve him well for at least the next five years as he intends to really scale up from his current model. He has previously mainly photographed scenery, the general outdoors and some shots of the moon. He wants to be able to start trying out night sky photography, even better landscape scenery and possibly up close macro photography. He doesnt really dabble much with portrait photography. He is looking at some possible options, these being, Nikon Z7 and Nikon D750, A big jump from his current Nikon D3200 and Nikon coolpix 600 bridge. Are there any Nikon camera experts who can shed some light on what would be his best option and pros and cons? Any advice, even of other Nikon cameras to consider would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi,
I have the Nikon Z7 and it is a fantastic camera, if he is thinking of the Z7 and also thinking of Night Photography then tell him to consider the Nikon Z6 instead of the Z7. The Nikon Z6 and Z7 are the same camera except the z6 has a lower resolution sensor which means the pixels on the sensor are larger which gives slightly better low light performance and it's much cheaper than the Z7. I bought the Z7 because I wanted the best resolution for landscape photography otherwise I would have gone for the Z6. I did look at the Sony mirrorless cameras (Sony A7r III) as they are also fantastic cameras, but the Sony didn't feel as comfortable in my hand as the Nikon Z7. Not really night shots but are from the Z7 (these are lower res jpg's), if he would like to see the High Resolution Raw images then PM me.

Agree with everything Stu said there. I get to see all the different makes at my studio and although Sony performance is great, the usability is really lacking IMHO. I took some great shots with the Sony A9 and it was really fast but I was forever going through menus - feels like it's been designed by hifi people not photographers.
Most people around here prefer canon to nickon and the canon eos rp is a bit of a bargain to be honest for everything that's on it. If you're used to Nikon though, the Z6 is great (I'd say avoid the 750 and go with mirrorless z7/z6 because it's the way forward) |

Also, if he has a few Nikon lenses, he can get the F to Z mount adapter should he buy the Z6 or Z7, unless he gets a deal with it included

Stu great photos- is that Lady Bower plughole?
I have a Panasonic G9. It’s dropped in price and received a good firmware upgrade recently so it’s good bang for the buck. I love it, and it’s brilliant for video with possibly the best stabilisation on the market. It’s also particularly good for landscape as it has a special mode on for incredibly high res photos but only for subjects with little movement. It’s widely regarded as one if the best ergonomic cameras in the market and the lenses are smaller and lighter than full SLR or full frame. The A7iii mentioned above is also excellent - it doesn’t have as good stabilisation but it has a bit better low light and autofocus.
