New Forest Staycation
Hi Dibb friends! We are just back from a lovely three night break to the New Forest - despite feeling anxious about going away I can honestly say it was really good, and we felt completely safe and comfortable throughout our stay.
We stayed at Burley Manor, in Burley near Ringwood. The hotel is a beautiful old manor house, next to a deer park. We had a garden room, which had a door leading out to the grounds, overlooking the pool and deer park. We liked that we could access our room easily from the car park, meaning we didnt need to trek through the hotel each time we went out, (which required mask wearing) as there was a handy door in the corridor opposite our room to the car park. Covid precautions meant we had to keep our own room clean and tidy (no housekeeping for three days) we simply requested more tea bags or towels etc, and they left them by the door. It wasnt really a bother at all. We also had to wear a mask to walk through the hotel, but not to dine in the restaurant. We booked a slot for the heated pool each day, which was blissful! It was so good to swim after months of not being able to. We had the pool completey to ourselves. We went out and about a bit, mostly for long walks on the heathland near to us to see the wild roaming ponies, I just loved seeing them everywhere, in the road, and just wandering freely in the village. There were also cattle, and gorgeous vibrant purple heather everywhere. Burley seems to be famous for Witches, which we found fascinating. We ate out a couple of times, using eat out to help out. The food in the hotel was the best, and we both said we would love to go back next year. All in all a nice way to ‘celebrate’ my redundancy and to get away for a few days. Came home to find that Easyjet have cancelled my flight to Croatia for my annual girls trip this October, so am currently busy making Plan B bookings for somewhere here in UK. You just have to keep rolling with it this year dont you?... Few photos from our trip -

We love the NF, its just beautiful.
We had one of our best meals ever in a superb hotel smack in the middle of nowhere near Lyndhurst called the Limewood. Worth checking out if you do it again and do a google... I have cut and pasted the following that you may find of interest... it is on the edge of a lovely forest walk... ALICE IN WONDERLAND For most of her life, Alice Pleasance Liddell (Hargreaves) lived in and around Lyndhurst in the New Forest. Alice was the inspiration for the character in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll. After her death she was cremated and her ashes were buried in the graveyard of the church of St. Michael & All Angels, Lyndhurst. The memorial plaque reads: "The grave of Mrs Reginald Hargreaves. The "Alice" in Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland"". Love the pics Disney332

Glad you had a good time Louise. Have just been looking at this hotel for next weekend but decided on Richmond mainly for a steak at Goucho's.
It's a beautiful hotel and every time we go to the New Forest I always say I want to stay there. Hope you find somewhere for October. Tracey

Love walking in the Forest, I'm lucky it's only 20 minutes away.
Good to see photos of the local wildlife, did you not see the wild pigs? they always make me smile. -Steve
