Day 2
Breakfast was pretty much the same as yesterday. We then headed off to Animal Kingdom. I faced my fears, relinquished my Team Wimp membership (well to a degree) and finally conquered Expedition Everest. I didn’t really like it but I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. Either way it called for a celebration, which came in the form of Dole Whips with Coconut Rum at Tamu Tamu Refreshments.
As they contained alcohol we could not use any of our credits for them, so parted with $14 for two. They were delicious. Lunch – Yak & Yeti Local Food Café, Animal Kingdom We used a QS credit to get a Teriyaki Beef Bowl, frozen lemonade for dessert and a drink, plus a snack credit for Chicken Fried Rice and shared it all, which made for an ample lunch. The beef was delicious and although the rice was tasty too, the emphasis was decidedly on the rice rather than the chicken, which was sadly lacking. Cost – 1 QS and 1 snack credit/about $25 Before leaving Animal Kingdom we used another snack credit at Starbucks to get a venti Caramel Frappe. It was gigantic and we could barely finish it between us. We could have used two snack credits to get two small drinks here but since a massive one still only uses one credit that’s what we did. Cost – 1 snack credit/$7.19 Dinner – Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge We had a reservation for 6pm and I’m glad we did because Animal Kingdom closed at 6:30, just after which the restaurant was absolutely heaving, with long lines at all the buffet stations, whereas we were able to walk straight up to them. Our server confirmed that they always get busy just after the park shuts, although I’m sure the timing of this will change once Rivers of Light gets going. Here’s a selection of what we had: We loved the food here, so many interesting and unusual flavours. Again there was a great selection of salads but this time there was hardly any cheese in them, so I was much happier. Items we particularly enjoyed included watermelon rind salad, mealie dogs, kool slaw, plantain chips, guava pannacotta and jungle juice, which was available as the soft drink on the dining plan. We would definitely eat here again but would do our best to avoid busy times. Cost – 2 TS credits/$85.20
