Day 7
Back to breakfast at the hotel today. We kept it deliberately small in anticipation of what was to come.
“Lunch” – Beaches & Cream, Beach Club Resort Beaches & Cream has been a firm favourite of ours for some years now. We generally either have lunch here or share a sundae of some kind. With there being just the two of us there is no way we could come close to finishing a Kitchen Sink. Luckily whilst we were there today a family of four ordered one, so we did at least get to chant “A whole can.” Our goal was more modest. We were going to tackle this instead. Brace yourselves… …and we did it. Our server very kindly washed the container out for us and gave us a plastic bag to take it away in. We’re not ones to fill our house with Disney tat, erm memorabilia, but this now sits proudly beside our actual kitchen sink, holding the washing up liquid and hand wash. The Mini Mickey Sink was the only thing we ordered, so we were unable to use any of our dining plan credits and paid $24.50 cash for it instead. Dinner – Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café, Magic Kingdom This was a bit of a rubbish meal. The queues were massive and it took an eternity to get served. We ordered the Chicken & Rib Combo from bay 1, swapping the mash for fries. It came with green beans and we also had a yogurt and a large soda. There was plenty of food for the two of us to share but it wasn’t easy to eat from paper plates with a plastic knife and fork. I know lots of people like Cosmic Ray’s but we weren’t very impressed. We probably would have chosen to go to Columbia Harbour House but as we’d already eaten there when we did the Keys to the Kingdom tour we thought we’d try somewhere else, which wasn’t our greatest decision. As a general rule we struggle with QS places to eat in the Magic Kingdom and only really like Columbia Harbour House and Pecos Bill. Cost – 1 QS credit/ about $25. As the meal had been so poor, after Wishes we used a snack credit to console ourselves with a shared Dole Whip Float – just in case we hadn’t already had enough ice cream today

Day 8
Ok, you know the drill by now. We took the short walk down the corridor to have breakfast at the hotel.
Lunch – Kona Café, Polynesian Resort This was another lovely restaurant and another one which often seems to get overlooked. It was really difficult to choose what to have as it serves what is very much our sort of food and we would have been happy if we had just been given anything from the menu. In the end I decided on the Grilled Steak Salad. This was served with a delicious cashew-lime vinaigrette and came high in the rankings for my favourite meal. Sean had Pan-Asian Noodles with Shrimp and a Long Board beer to go with it. This too was a big hit. For dessert I had Chocolate Fondue, which was a selection of fresh fruits and some cookies and macaroons, with a chocolate dipping sauce. Sean had Yuzu Citrus Tart, which he declared to be “zesty.” I took that to be a positive as he had no trouble finishing it. We absolutely loved both the food and the ambience at Kona Café and will definitely return, perhaps for dinner next time. Cost – 2 TS credits plus $12 for beer/about $78 Dinner – Catalina Eddie’s, Hollywood Studios. Originally we had intended to get pizza at the Boardwalk window, then catch the friendship boat to Hollywood Studios for Fantasmic. However, we spent too long out shopping and had to drive straight to Hollywood Studios instead. We couldn’t shake off the idea of pizza though, so we went to Catalina Eddies, where Sean ordered a Pepperoni Pizza and I chose a Chicken Pesto flatbread. Things all went a bit wrong as just when it was our turn to be served, the Mickey head reader thingy for the dining plan stopped working, so we had to join the only other queue and wait all over again. Things clearly weren’t going well here. Each of our meals should have come with a side of Caesar salad. Instead we got one side and one full sized Chicken Caesar Salad meal! I can’t remember what desserts we ordered but it didn’t make much difference as they were just being given out randomly. We got a chocolate gooey thing and a vanilla gooey thing. As it was nearly time for Fantasmic, we took our trays into the auditorium with us, which was no mean feat, and just about managed to get done before the show started. A bit of an odd meal as it was all so chaotic at the counter, but ok. Cost – 2 QS credits/$40.41
