Mobile Excursions book on board or when you arrive?

Just been looking at excursions with rcl just wondered if it's best to book them on board or is there places at port that you can book through cheaper? We would like to take the girls snorkeling but it looks like all the reefs are quite a way from where we dock or is there an accessible beach good for snorkeling? Thanks in advance

There really is no right or wrong on this, just personal choice.

Our choice is to book things DIY as it's much cheaper, we're not herded around with a coach load of others, we are on our own timetable and there's no waiting around for the slow people who 'just want one more shop' or 'a quick smoke'.

The one thing I would say about doing DIY is make sure you have a solid Plan B in case Plan A fails. You do not want to be that person running down the pier shouting for the ship to wait.

We always make sure we are scheduled back at the ship at least 2 hours before All Aboard time. We take maps with us, taxi numbers and our passports!

Exactly as Bats says. We're about to start a 26 night Far East cruise and not one ship tour!
If you give us an idea of your itinerary we might be able to offer suggestions. Also have a look at the Ports of Call section on Cruisecritic for ideas.

Nassau isn't our favourite port but we always get off and find interesting things - even if it's only stuffing ourselves on free samples from the Tortuga Rum Cake shop!
We've done stuff from a historical walking tour and ending up getting squiffy in Senor Frogs to getting a bus out to a resort for a beach day.
