Uber is generally cheaper than Mears (taxi). Another option, although will take longer would be to get a resort bus to Disney springs then I'm sure there is a bus service to Universal, although I'm not sure of the details.

I've no idea about Uber or about Universal - but last time we went we took a bus to SeaWorld. If I remember correctly it cost about $2 and really wasn't a big deal at all. It didn't take particularly long and the staff both at Disney and the driver were really helpful.

We are going to be staying at All Star Movies in the summer and will be taking a few trips to Universal/International Drive. Going to try public transport once and if it's not too bad, we'll take the bus up but get an Uber back.

Magical express was fine for us. We used uber for going to Universal. You can get good discount codes online and it works out really cheap as well as really easy.
