Mobile Declaring spending money.

Hey all,

Just wondering if I took over the set amount of spending money in cash what happens when declaring it?
Do we simply say yes to the question or do we go through more questioning/checks?

Not sure what would happen that’s all

I suspect they would ask why you have it and what its for.

If you have over the cash limit , it would be foolish not to declare it.

Its per person...

I thought if you was travelling through immigration together on the same Esta it would be classed as total? So we would be able to take 10k each before declaring?

Obviously I want to make sure I’m doing the right thing so wanted to check what happens

If you're flying into MCO we haven't seen a customs form in 2 or 3 years and the automated kiosks have been removed so the only way you'll get asked is if the IO asks at immigration.

Entered Florida 36 times and maybe only asked three or four times how much currency we have. I can't even remember the figure you had to declare.

We always use cash over there by the way. You can withdraw cash from an ATM in Wawa gas stations who don't charge (assume your bank might though) and trust you've checked how much your travel insurance will cover for lost cash?

Im sure the cash limit is $10,000 each

you wont have that much surely so just declare what you have , not sure if they even ask now ? as long as its under 10k?

I've already replied but I don't recall having to declare currency on an ESTA. No such thing as a joint ESTA anyway - they are all individual aligned to your passport.

We got asked at immigration in December 2019 how much cash we had. I said we had about $300. Then I felt I had to justify it by explaining that I put everything on the credit cards.

Nobody asked me about the 23 dollars in coins I took in last time. Feelsbadman...

Behold the cashless masters!

On a serious note that is a concerning amount of money to actually travel with. You might want to risk manage that situation (keep it in the bank).

My concern carrying that much cash would be if my insurance covered it. Imagine having it lost or stolen 😯
