Mobile Flights to San Diego

I'm trying to find flights to San Diego for July but coming back through Orlando. Does anyone know if it is best to get a multi city flight direct to San Diego on way out then via Orlando on way back or should I be looking at booking them separately and doing a return flight to Orlando then internal return flight to San Diego? At the moment first option seems to be quite expensive.

I think it's still only BA that fly direct to San Diego so that would limit your choices. If you don't mind changes planes on route you would probably get a better deal or if not consider flying into LAX which is about 2 1/2 hours away. Kayak's search engine is fairly good at checking for multi city flights.

From Europe only BA and as from next month Lufthansa fly direct.

We flew with BA at Christmas. The airport is very easy to get through.

I think you have to try various combinations to see what comes in cheapest!

Interestingly we found the airport a bit tough, the BA flight is probably one of the largest planes to use San Diego and the Border Control was quite small with few desks. Took us about an hour and a half to get through, but then it's a very short hop into SD. Generally a lot more expensive than LAX though..

We must have been lucky - a lot of the passengers were American so used the machines and we were through in no time!
