If it is food that is on your plate I don't see the problem, most restaurants supply takeaway boxes for uneaten pizza, curries etc. So they are obviously ok with it.

OH did this at DLP.
He made 3 rolls up each morning.
Usually I'd be mortified but the as the park offerings were so awful (this was 2007) and the breakfast environment was my idea of hell, I decided I really couldn't care less if we grabbed and left!
In normal circumstances, no, I wouldn't do it but I wouldn't think anyone awful for taking a piece of fruit or something small anyway.
I'm sure they factor this into the ludicrous prices!

I really didn't want to go into detail but they were very large people(and I am a big girl)shovelling the food in their faces like they hadn't see food before and repeatedly refilling their plates. It was gross.
I went for the characters for my children but yes you are right, buffets are not for me, for this reason. Some people take the all you can eat concept a little too literal.

Well, they do now, that's why they have started charging for breakfast... grrr.

It's not just a piece of fruit though, people take whole cool boxes. So tacky. There are places in the station to buy a sandwich if you don't want to pay park prices.

Personally we've always filled up at breakfast, skipped lunch and spent a wonderful evening at one of the superb fine dining restaurants. Which even back in 2000 were excellent - our first ever meal was at Walt's.

This may change now they are charging £13 a head for a cold breakfast buffet - reportedly because they were losing so much money through people taking food away.

I only bag stuff up to take away if it's on my plate and I got full sooner than I expected - and even then it would be things like pastries or something like a banana.

After our late breakfast at CP in August, we were encouraged to stay and try lunch, and when I asked our waiter if I could have a banana as I woke with cramp during the night, he escorted me over to the breakfast side which had just been roped off and asked the chef to get me a couple of bananas. The chef went out the back and brought back 3, saying they were only small (they weren't).

So, if you're polite and obviously not grabbing everything in sight, they're very happy to let you take things away - especially if it's already on your plate. It would only go in the bin, otherwise.

BoG gave us 2 platters of pastries and stuff as it was our WA, and in the end they brought out a box to put them all in as we couldn't eat it all (especially as they brought us a couple of 'the Grey Stuff' cupcakes as well).

I have never removed meat or cheese, incidentally.

To be honest anything above filling up a cool box per person at the buffet is wrong.

Those people that fill a couple of cool boxes or more each really make me angry when I only have my one - its not fair.

but that is at restaurants, where you pay for a serving of food, not at a buffet. Completely different at a non-buffet restaurant , and perfectly acceptable.

You'd be hard pushed to find a buffet where staff are encouraging guests to take stuff away in boxes and ziplock bags for a meal or snack later, defeats the object of a buffet where you pay for all you can eat - whilst there.

I've never done it and I wouldn't, to me it looks cheap and a bit scummy IMO.
plus I wouldn't want to eat a sweaty warm battered about pastry or sandwich out of a ziplock bag later either. I'd just buy a fresh snack if I was hungry.

Isn't this biggest point here that on DDP you simply don't need to?

Whole cool boxes? Why would they even allow that?
We aren't really first thing in the morning eaters to be honest so even with the 3 salami rolls OH made, we definitely didn't have our fair share!
I just wanted to get in and out as quickly as possible!
In fact OH just pointed out that 2 out of the 5 mornings we just bought a carton of milk and fruit bags in McDonalds for DS and skipped the madness altogether.

2007 was a stark contrast to my only other visit which was very shortly before the official opening. We had the best time and sadly 2007 wasn't. However, DS went with school 3 days after we returned from Florida last year and said it was different but good and so much better than before so perhaps it was a rough period.
Funnily enough I almost booked today to go tomorrow with DS but the Eurostar was a bit pricey at such short notice 😬
The price I was quoted (which was the only option) included some sort of dining plan actually and there was no mention of paying for breakfast.

At AKL we spied a couple of old women who brought a large wicker bag into breakfast every morning. For the first day or two they were pretty sneaky about filling it up. We got a table near to them so we could see exactly what they were up to but as time went on they became more and more brazen.

After initially finding this "granny heist" quite amusing we decided enough was enough and told the management. The next day we watched as security staked them out and then moved in for the "arrest".

They didn't come back.
