Bumped from PE to economy!

We booked our flights in PE at the beginning of January for Oct, when they had just been released. Had an email today stating that we had been bumped from PE and could move to Economy as one of the offered options. What I would like to know is how do they decide who will be moved. I know both evening flights on the day we leave have been merged but even so, we were almost the first to book, so why should we have to move? We are upset and absolutely fuming with Virgin.

WHAT! That's harsh. I've heard of people being upgraded but not downgraded. Have they refunded you for the difference in cost?

I'm yer man

I know exactly what you are entitled to and how to get it.

there are a few loopholes but its in black and white.

First thing to do is nothing - don't acknowledge virgin.

then go and look up EU Flight Regs (or me on here!).

EU site: europa.eu/youreurope/citizens...r/index_en.htm

in particular
Upgrading or downgrading
If you are upgraded, the airline can't request any additional payment.

a) 30% - flights of 1 500 km or less
b) 50% - flights within the EU of more than 1 500 km (except flights between the EU and French overseas departments), and all other flights between 1 500 and 3 500 km
c) 75% - flights not falling under (a) or (b), including flights between the EU and French overseas departments.
If you have 2 or more connecting flights included in a single If you are downgraded, you are entitled to reimbursement of a percentage of the price of your ticket, depending on the flight distance as follows:ticket, you can only be reimbursed for the flight which was downgraded and not for the entire journey. The reimbursement should be paid within 7 days.

CAA site: caa/Passengers/Res...re-downgraded/

You are entitled to 75% of the cost back of each affected leg of the flight you were downgraded on.

So eg if you spent £3000 on flights, 1 leg was downgraded = £1500 x 75%, that's what you are due back.

let me know if you need more info

been thru it and happy to share, been in email correspondence with CAA and other dibbers,

there is one small grey area and some one got ruled against because of it but I think I have the solution.

You can claim back up to 6 years and even if you have accepted a lesser comp you can re claim and get the right comp!

I got 1600 back from TC last year,

Thanks papamouse, we will definitely look into this. I must admit the compensation packages they offered are really good but that doesn't alter the fact that we want to travel PE (especially on the return journey). When I looked at the seat map for this journey, there are still 6 seats in PE, so why the hell have they bumped us off. I really do not understand it at all. All this has come via automated emails so you can't answer them. I am definitely going to ring them to see what is going on. I want answers! By the way the flight is on 19 Oct.

Yep abosolutely make them squirm.

All i wanted was the pe but they gave loads of concessions and comp!
Try to get it back or if you can move your dates to pe planes. Or worse case you know what you are due.
