Train Glasgow to Manchester Airport

Hello,

Right I'm probably going to ask a very silly question, but I've never been on a long distance train - my usual is 30 mins commute from my house to Uni or Glasgow City Centre.

What do you do with your luggage? We're a party of 7 so 7 suitcases and 7 hand luggage to go from Glasgow - Manchester Airport. Would we need to keep it with us like when we get the train from Dalry to Glasgow Central or is it taken away like on a coach?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the stupidity

xx

On a train journey you are responsible for your luggage at all times, you will need to use
self service luggage trolleys as porters on railway stations are a thing of the past

With a train like this you should book a ticket with a seat. If you book through virgin trains there is a tick box that asks if you want to reserve a seat. Later in the booking process you can actually choose a particular seat, but otherwise you will just be allocated one. You will be allocated seats together if they are available.

In each carriage, there is an overhead luggage rack. It's not very deep but that should be fine for your hand luggage. In each carriage there is a luggage rack. It is floor to ceiling with one shelf. You can pile your cases in there, on top of each other.

If you book an 'advance' ticket for a peak time train, it can only be used on that train. Off peaks advance can be used on any off peak train, but obviously your tickets will only reserve seats on one specified train. The most expensive are the open tickets which can be used on any train. The booking website will explain more about the tickets.

I don't know if you have to change at Manchester Piccadilly. I haven't noticed any self service luggage trolleys there, or anywhere else. There are special assistance golf cart/buggies but you should enquire about those in advance if you need one.

We use it for all our Manchester Airport trips but only travel from the North East. Book the tickets 12 weeks in advance for best fares. Ask for seats close to luggage rack so able to keep your eye on it. Ours is the Trans Pennine train and if you check timetables you can get a train right through to airport without changing. Makes life so much easier. When you come up the ramp from platform , you have clear signage, either for hotels and taxis or to terminals. Cannot go wrong

Thanks silverfox46.

We're looking at staying in the premiere inn so we're going to book a taxi in advance to take us from train station to hotel and then back the next morning to the terminal.
