Personally I don't know what they train links are like down to Edinburgh but I like to get the direct train from Edinburgh down to Manchester (you can do it from Glasgow as well)

I booked flights with Virgin (the cheapest I could find) which ended up being a flight from Gatwick out and back to Heathrow.
When I looked at flight costs to gotwick and back from Heathrow, the cost was prohibitive when you added in hold luggage so we started to look for alternatives. I've booked train tickets for the 5 of us down to Gatwick for £140 single and I've changed my flight back to MCO-JFK for 5 days and then JFK-EDI. Because of the change (and drop in hotel rooms required - I booked an Airbnb place in NYC), I got a refund of £450 which was a real surprise. Shows it's worth thinking outside the box. |

I am going via Toronto - EDI - YYZ (clear customs) - MCO, only problem is it is a seasonal route, and there is a day's layover in Toronto on the way back.

We are in Stirling and usually go direct with Virgin, last year we went with aer lingus via Dublin flights were cheat and you go through immigration in Dublin but there is nothing after immigration and the flight was pretty poor. We prefer to fly from Edinburgh as it’s slightly closer but really any is fine

We prefer a direct flight from Glasgow. All our flights from Glasgow have been direct with Virgin. Once was part of a package with Virgin Holidays, the rest of the time we booked the flights through VA ourselves.
We are doing 2 trips this year and are flying with TUI in a few weeks time. Return flights for an adult was around £450. In September we are flying with Virgin as wee had flying club miles to use so it meant that we only had to pay taxes so it worked out at £273 each. We have always looked at doing an indirect flight with BA doing Glasgow-Gatwick-MCO as they have good prices at certain times but the wait between connections always puts us off.

The last twice we’ve been we’ve flown from Manchester, with Thomas Cook & Virgin. We drive down the night before and stay over. The drive home is a bit of a killer but it’s usually an easy drive as you arrive so early. We’re about 30 miles south of Glasgow so are off the motorway before rush hour. Th me cost usually justifies the drive.
This year we’ve a little one to consider so we’re flying indirect Glasgow-Gatwick-MCO. Again, I think it will be the return leg that’s the killer, depending on how we all sleep on the plane, but it’ll be good to get off the plane in Glasgow and only have an hours drive ahead of us. |
