I still use UBER but always ask who it’s for before getting in .
If they don’t know , they aren’t genuine as your name comes up on their app when you book.
Ok thank you. We always track the car on our phone and look for the car and reg. and walk over to it. Sometimes I say our name or the driver says it. I did once go over to a car at a hotel standing in the ride share without checking and told him our name and he obviously wouldnt let us get in. I always feel a bit safe with Uber/Lyft as I know its all tracked...but maybe not? I thought just checking the car and reg was enough.

I have copied this from the Orlando sentinal artical regarding how the pricing will go.

The trips will cost the same for riders, whether a Mears car or an Uber vehicle picks them up. The booking fee for the more premium experience is $2.70, with a base fare of $7, plus $2 per mile and 71 cents per minute. Each trip has a $15 minimum.

UberBlack
Beginning Nov. 28, when Orlando users login to the Uber app they will get a luxury option, called UberBlack, that lets them — for the same price — hail a Mears vehicle or an Uber car. (Courtesy of Uber)
On the Uber side, drivers will earn on a per-mile, per-minute basis. And on the Mears side, drivers keep all the revenue collected and Uber will collect its $2.70 fee from each trip.

SO , you pay $2.70 to book a Uber? Then $7 on top of that to use it?
Then both ? $2 a mile and 71cents a minute and the minimum charge is $15 ? Right? ( roughly a 3 mile trip.)
Sorry lol

Try the lyft app. I used it last year and it was easy and safe. Most lyft cars have a neon sign that u r name is displayed on. Or it confirms they are lyft. A photo of the car is shown so u know what is coming. I struggled with identifying some makes and models and had to run around the back to check license plate. The app was very easy and i highly recommend them x

I like Lyft better as well but would use either.

$15 minimum on an Uber now? Usually half that for my normal trips between idrive and Universal. If that is the case for Uber I will exclusively use Lyft now.

I used it in Florida all the time, and since realizing how easy it was I now use it here too! Love how easy it is!

Mears and Uber are still separate/different companies in Orlando.

However, Mears and Uber have come to an agreement such that Mears taxis can now be hired using the UberBlack part of the Uber app.

In Orlando you will now get the option to select a "luxury" option (called UberBlack) that lets you hail a Mears vehicle or a luxury Uber car.

It's only $15 minimum if you use the UberBlack part of the app.

UberBlack is essentially the luxury version of UberX. If you use UberX then you'll get the standard Uber cars at the standard - and cheaper - Uber prices.

Basically, Uber is treating the Mears taxi cabs as a "luxury" option.
