Mobile Taking money and getting money out in florida

Hi, its my first trip to florida and im planning taking some dollars with me say £500-£1000) but whats the best way to get more money out safely and easily when over there? Travellers cheques? Cash machines (will our uk bank cards even work in the machines over in the usa)? Top up card from post office? Any help much appreciated. Thanks

There are lots of options. Travellers cheques are less used than they used to be so you’d maybe have some bother. You UK bank card will work at the ATM but you may incur charges. You could use a pre paid currency card that you can use as a debit card and take cash out on. There’s lots of options but I use Revolut.

There are a variety of ways and it's a preference to you.

Travellers cheques are accepted- safe and replaceable
Credit card - use one that has no foreign transaction fees
Pre paid cards
Starling bank - I don't know anything but told it's good abroad
Cash machines - charge each time

We take some cash - around $1000 worth. No more than our insuranace allows. We also take a pre paid card - Revolut, we have one each, and also a credit card each for emergencies (Kate Spade bags are an emergency you know haha)

We always take money out at a Wawa garage, as they don’t charge for withdrawals.

i've used less than $200 in cash the last couple of times ive been.

everything goes on cards. either a fee-free credit card (santander zero, halifax clarity) or my monzo card. previously i used a fairfx prepay card without issue, but now monzo is my main spending account i use that for general spending. larger purchases go on the credit card for the extra protection it offers

Also with a currency card you can top up as you go, so convenient, never needed to use a cash point.

I have used a Halifax Clarity Card on previous trips abroad wi th no issues. This will be my first time using it in the states but is suspect it will work just as well as it did in other countries.

You get the best exchange rate and unless you withdraw cash there are no charges for transactions as far as I have seen.

Massive thread recently about how to take money but to keep it simple

The ATMs inside Wawa gas stations do not charge for withdrawals with a CC or a DC. But your bank might. HSBC for instance about 2.75%.

Very new, clean and safe environment inside the Wawa shops.
