Disney resort putting a hold on Revolut card
Just wanted to let people know about the hold Disney resort hotels put on our revolut card.
We wanted to use our bands to pay for things and so registered our card upon check in - my understanding was that a $100 hold would be put on our card (I was fine with this). Receptionist just said to come down a few days before we check out to clear our balance and the hold would be released. It was a real pain because they actually kept putting holds on our Card and we ended up with about $300 being held, and it didn’t appear back in our available balance on our card until a week after they released it - (we hadn’t spent it, but they hold double what you spend or something (I couldn’t quite understand it!). Our total bill was about $500 but about $800 was missing from my card. I kept going to the reception and asking if it was from their end and I was told that they’d released the hold. We had to top up our revolut card with more dollars to replace the $300 that was on hold. We were off on a cruise and needed the spends. Just wanted to inform people that are not aware of this. Next time I just wouldn’t bother registering my card and I’d pay for any purchases using my actual revolut card and not the magic band

I would be more surprised if this was a new thing for guests who wanted to charge items using their magic bands but totally get why it's a pain.
I thought it was standard practise for hotels who give guests charging rights to do this? As far as I understand the process Disney don't make any extra money by doing this they are just ensuring that an amount of funds will be there when it is time to process the payment. So I guess the summary of what I have just written is I'm not surprised !

I totally get that it is their policy and probably a lot of hotels do this. We don’t stay in many hotels so I was unaware that a $300 hold would be put on my card (that we hadn’t spent) and wouldn’t be available for us to spend until a week later. I was just making anyone that are like myself aware of the hold, that’s all.
ETA- I think if we spent so much, they’d take that and more. Sorry, probs just being silly not realising that this happens - just wanted to make anyone that doesn’t use hotels much aware of this - we stayed at Hard Rock last year at Uni and they didn’t do that. Edited at 01:14 PM. |

Disney changed their policy earlier in the year.
New credit card hold policy can be found here: disneyworld.disney.go/en...vX1FbBpZldd284 They also now charge your card with the balance every 5 days. |

It is a problem that has been mentioned before but it is good to get an update.
I have a friend who is a DVC member and when staying at BLT he was being charged $100 on his currency card. Had to go to front desk to change his payment card. Did receive some compensation though. He has been home a week now and the charges have still not been credited to his cards. Be careful and keep checking MDE for your charges.

Universal do this too.
Last time we just used our debit card as a ‘hold card’ but didn’t use it to pay. We paid with TCs every few days. In 2017 we did a Disney cruise and it was the same. We gave them our credit card as a ‘hold’ card, but we used our FairFx card every few days to pay off the balance.

I think I'll be going back to paying for everything with cash. Wouldn't be so bad if the hold was credited back straight away but don't fancy waiting weeks for the hold to be credited back, especially once your home.

Universal asked me for details of a card to link to the account and I politely refused and they said that's OK you just won't be able to charge anything to the room - we never did anyway so no difference there. When we checked in at Disney last we didn't link a card but then we had an issue one day with one of our meals it was supposed to be the tip on the currency card and meals on the dining plan but he charged the whole lot on the currency card. Reception then said they would reimburse the money but it could take a week (got it back next day) and charge the DP, he then said if we linked our card it would be much easier and quicker to sort out if it happens again but I realise now this was just a line. We won't be linking any cards as I we barely take enough as it is, can't have a few hundred pounds tied up for days.

Yes, I think we declined to link up our card with Hard Rock last year. Maybe all the excitement got the better of me at the Disney check in desk lol
