some car hire questions
so just booked with alamo brits for the first time usually book with andy at discount florida car hire but had a saving of nearly £200 firstly my booking is always with alamo does this have the same level of insurance cover etc as when booking with andy. i get private breakdown cover with a company mr morrow recommended a few years ago. finally never really occurred to me but what do you do if involved in an accident do all the insurances cover you or is there an excess like in the uk or does it depend on who is at fault thank you mike.

Mike.
Your coverage with Alamo Brits is fine, namely CDW, SLI and all taxes covered. In common with all rental companies Alamo has dropped their SLI coverage to $300k from $1 Million. Andy still has $1 Million coverage though To be honest I’m ambivalent about it and am currently in a Sixt Car with $300k coverage. With regards to an accident your excess is zero so you can return the car in any condition with nothing to pay even if you are totally at fault. The only exception would be if the driver of the rental car was found to be drunk or under the influence of drugs. That will open a whole can of worms.

The procedure would be the same as the UK if on a road such as the I4 etc. Get over to the verge, hopefully even on to the grass, get out and move away from the vehicle.
Probably the Road Rangers will be along but ring for the Police to attend. Then the following day request an E Mail of the Police Report for the Rental Company. The attending Officer will advise you of the procedure. In the interim you will be ringing Alamo for them to recover the vehicle and bring you another one. Finally as always, take photos, remove all your belongings when the tow truck arrives and carry on enjoying your holiday. Always bear in mind drivers in Florida are aggressive, entitled and have egos bigger than their trucks. They think they are great drivers but sadly they are poor.
