Rumour- Minimum Number of Direct Points For Perks Going To 125
Good source, on DVC Fan page.
Blue card owners expected to be grandfathered in. I’m not convinced this will drive more sales. It’s gone from 25 minimum to 75 then 100 I think, now 125. I’d have thought dropping it back to 75 may have encouraged more white card owners to buy an add on. From 1 October.

Do people really buy for the benefits though? if so its a crazy thing to do as they can be cut with no notice, an ok lounge and a discount on an AP is not really worth the premium you pay going direct expically as it could all be cut tomorrow if the mouse decides.

Will they be introducing more perks to make it worth it? Doubt it!

Seems like a rather bold decision given the current and future economic turbulence. A decision to be made in good times rather than bad.
You'd expect this is there to encourage direct customers to splash out on those extra 25 points...a short term boost as people rush to buy before Oct 1st followed by a long term gain for Disney with all new customers from that point on. However are people really in a position to splash out even more to buy in to direct? Is the strong demand really there to squeeze further $ from? Or will it price out direct demand with new customers and fuel further resale purchases? Given the climate I'm surprised they haven't postponed this or gone the other way down to 75 points again, even temporarily for a fixed period. That would have the benefit of poaching and driving revenue from resale customers and honest self acknowledgement that the perks currently aren't worth as much. Edited at 10:17 PM. |

All they care about is selling the new resorts - resale is not a primary issue, the more negatives they can give to resale the better the chance the new resorts will sell.

Be nice if they provided some DVC perks for people who lived outside of FL
AP useless for many who only go once a year or less. Moonlight Magic very difficult to organise if you need to book flights etc.. Discount is nice but again if you only visit once a year it doesn't equal to much. So your left with free sodas and pretzels in the lounge. Not worth the extra $95 a point than my SSR resale points. |

I don't think them raising the minimum buy in does anything to help them sell new resorts though. Quite likely the opposite effect as they squeeze out potential customers.
I believe this is about them widening their margins on their direct sales. It smacks of attempting to hit short term revenue targets and KPI's, rather than a strategy tailored for the current climate where family vacation funds could be more limited and direct perks are also devalued. It seems blind to those facts, which is baffling. |
