BA - can’t book seats online?

I booked a hotel/ flight package with BA over the phone for next August so have just paid the deposit.
When I go to Manage my Booking I cannot select seats or see any seating plan. ( I am aware they need to be paid for). It just says Seats only allocated at check in.
Does anyone know why? Is it because I booked by phone? Because I’ve only paid a deposit? Because they haven’t decided on the plane? I don’t know if this is just normal or if there is a problem with the booking.
Thanks for any advice lovely Dibbers. 😊

I have a hotel / flight booking on which I have paid deposit only. I have checked it and I would definitely be able to book seats if I wanted to. So it isn’t due to deposit only booking.

Have you received your e-ticket? I booked our flight only over the phone, got the e-ticket straight away and could book seats.

Then I changed the outbound flight and now can’t book those seats on that plane. I spoke to BA and they said it’s because they are behind in sending out the new e-ticket and as soon as I get that I should then be able to book seats.

Aha! Perhaps this is it! I have had an email which talks about an e- ticket receipt being sent separately but I never received a second email. Thanks for that Kat, it’s probably in the backlog. Think my booking was a bit complicated because I booke economy out but Business back and it seemed to entail a lot of tweaking by the agent.
I don’t actually want to book seats yet because there are 5 of us and the seat booking fee is not refundable if we cancel/ change booking I think, but I just wanted to look at the configuration and get an idea of the cost of booking the Club World seats.
I’ll just sit and be patient 😊

Go to Seat Guru, it's free, put in your flight number and the seat plan will show. It wont show what's booked and what's not but you will know the seat configuration.

Expertflyer allows you to look at the seat plan which does show booked seats. I think you can use it a couple of times free.

CW seats are ridiculous price, it will be something between £80 - £120 each, assuming this is to Orlando.

Just a thought - do a flight only dummy booking choosing Economy out (not HBO) back in Club and the page after you put the names in allows you to choose seats. So that would show which ones are occupied and how much the reamining seats cost. Then you just stop and come out of the site.

Yes we are in the same position as the seat reservations in CW is extortionate! I’m going to keep an eye of the availability over the coming months. 😁
