How to tell if this is a con?

its a bit confusing sorry x

Back in the summer we had a phone call (at the closed family bar) from the police-the person who answered didnt really know/pay attention too much so we forgot about it.

About 10 days ago o/h step brother got a visit at his work (in corfu) from the police looking for my o/h.
He might have been a witness to a historic assult (they were definately real police, and this had come via interpol)

Fast forward to this morning ive been contacted on messenger (o/h isn't on facebook) by the person this has supposedly happened to (a distant relative of o/h that he barely remembers)
We messaged for a bit, I didn't give out info willy nilly, the conversation seemed 'normal.
They asked if the police could be in contact, I said yes and gave my email.

Got an email from the "police" but it just seems a bit odd.

Things going through my head...
How can I check this email is real?
If its a con what's are they going to get from this? (Were skint lol)
The police in corfu are involved-how can it be a con?
If its not a con i don't want to just push it aside.

Thoughts VERY welcome xx

It doesn’t sound like a con

But I would independently contact by searching fo their details and not using the ones in the correspondence you may have received (email or write) the police in Corfu with a copy of everything you have and ask if this is form them and what do they suggest you do etc

I used to work for the police, if you want to send me the “police” email via PM then you can. They should all be same so I will quickly be able to let you know if it’s a real email

OP. A very quick search by me shows Police Forces in the UK have an E Mail address that ends .pnn.police.uk

If yours doesn't have that I suspect it's a scam.

Some good advice already given.
