Rip out bath or shower cubicle.

Elderly aunt just bought a new build,it already had everything picked for it so has a bath with shower over, she just wants a shower so would it be better to get bath removed or see if a shower could be put in a large cupboard in the hall?

Guessing she plans on living there forever? If so make it how she wants it. Would get rid of the bath and put a nice decent size walk in shower with a seat etc.

We will be doing so when the kids leave.

The only time I wouldn't is if she plans to move in a couple of years.

I wondered what your idea of elderly was ?!

If you can have the shower fitted elsewhere I would do. Two bathrooms are always an advantage. I would not buy a house that only had a shower.

My Mum when she was in her mid 80's fell over getting out of the bath. I immediately had it ripped out and a big shower installed.

Best thing I did albeit it knocks money off the property. I would never squeeze a shower in as those small cubicles are awful.

Safety first, property value second.

i would make the bathroom into a nice sized shower room, get at least 800x800 tray, we have a 900

trying to squeeze a small tray into cupboard will be limiting & lack of ventilation & hot & cold feed?

This is what I did in January. Even though I’m only 63 I had a couple of near accidents climbing into and out of the bath so I thought I’d change things before I really get old and infirm.

I thought it would be a lot quicker to have a walk-in shower but it’s so lovely to stand under one of those big powerful shower heads, I’m in there ages !

I agree with previous posts. The removal of a bath will have an impact on property values but will enable her to ‘use’ and the house in a way that best suits her. What’s the use of a bath if she can’t use it for fear of having a fall? With a shower she’ll remain independent for longer. I wish her happiness in her new home.

We removed the bath and shower cubicle and had a wet room put in, we all love it. But make sure the flooring is non slip!

Thanks all she is nearly 79 and not too steady on her feet and she doesnt want to climb in to bath, although she had a seat that went up and down in her old house. she has got used to our shower while living with us and wants one of her own.
