help-chromebook and Alexa app

We've just bought mother inlaw an Amazon Echo dot, she has a chromeboook and I am having a nightmare trying to get the Amazon Alexa app. Google playstore says we have no devices, Amazon sends us round in circles, any step by step instructions please ?

The best way to set up Alexa using the chrome book would be using the website instead of trying to download the app. Here are the instructions from Amazon UK.

Thanks, but Amazon just tells me to download the Amazon Alexa app, but when I follow the instructions I can't download it. It's driving me mad. I'm assuming it's because it's a chromebook ,nwondering if it would be easier to use her ancient mobile phone.

Chrome books don’t have apps.

You can install extensions. But I can’t see an Alexa extension

yes, just realised this., absolute rubbish. She has an old tablet but I doubt it would cope with down loading an app, it's years old., Any way around this? If I took my tablet over to her could I use my Alexa app to set up her device ? I have an echo and set of up in 5 minutes with my tablet, but not sure my tablet could be used to set up her device ?

If you click on the link alexa.amazon/ and then log in with an amazon account - you can go into the settings part on the page and choose setup device.

If you were to use your tablet you would need to make sure that you are signed out of your amazon account so that the devices do not link to the same account.

Hope this helps

I think I'll have to try using my tablet. How ridiculous that Alexa and Chromebooks aren't compatible. If my tablet doesn't work MIL will be getting an additional birthday present of an Amazon Fire
