Mobile Virgin baggage allowance query

We are a family of 4. Two adults and two teenagers.
Our tickets state that we have an allowance of 23kg each. However we will only take two or three pieces of checked in luggage. These most likely won't be 23kg anyway. But am I correct in assuming that we could use the whole 4x23kg but over three pieces of luggage. So for example one piece could perhaps weigh over the 23kg? I'm struggling to find what the maximum allowed weight is, which on previous holidays has been different to the allowance for each person.

It's max 23kg per case. You can't pool the allowance.

We travelled with Virgin last month and were told at check in that it was 23kg per case, there was a surcharge per Kg over that or you could add another case. We ended up having to move some into hand luggage to avoid it. They are very strict.

Thanks guys. Thought it seemed like there was no pooling allowed. Cheers for the clarification. :-)

I would take 1 case for each person .However I would also pack a little bit of everyone’s clothing in each, just in case one gets delayed at the airport. The cases are allowed to weigh less than 23 kg but not more ( depending on the airport staff) unless you want to incur baggage fees. You can always pack a couple of extra bags inside your cases for the return if you think you’ll buy more items out there. Just read the blurb about permitted hand luggage sizes and allowances too it can also give you a bit more space if you get stuck (as long as it’s not liquids). No one wants to be caught out at the airport shuffling their stuff about before parting with the cases.

At the moment we are aiming for 2x checked luggage and perhaps 2x cabin luggage which is upto 10kg as I understand it.

It's easy to pack for somewhere when all you need are shorts and t-shirts.

:-))

On a previous holiday with a different airline we took two cases between 4 of us (easier with small kids) but that airline allowed luggage to be pooled. Now looking to buy 4 medium cases instead so that we each get our allowance plus space to bring the purchases home

We take 2 large cases with a medium one inside each, aka a case within a case.

Sounds like a plan for the outbound journey, we took 2 cases out last year for 3 of us and took an extra bag (large hold-all) so we had 3 on the way home.

If you take 2 extra bags in your cases it gives you the option of buying stuff while out there (or you could buy out there if you didn’t want to use up your valuable space,) especially as you have spare capacity coming back.

I don’t know how many times you’ve been but I certainly wouldn’t want to be in a position where I couldn’t bring back a souvenir (or my child couldn’t,) because I didn’t have a case for it, especially knowing that I had luggage capacity for it on the plane.

We’re taking 3 cases with a case inside a case so we will be bringing 4 back with us. However, there’s only two of us so we will be paying for the additional bags 😀
