I've seen loads of posts about people having concerns about booking through third party sites but never one worried about booking direct. I'm curious, what is it that worries you ?

Not sure really... a combo of a number of things really...the fares being so much cheaper than VA for exactly the same seats on exactly the same aircraft, not having flown with them before, as the fares were so much cheaper had I had misinterpreted fares and would turn up to find i had no checked luggage/meals etc included, we would book flight only with delta v possible package elsewhere, ease of contact through the booking peocesd or should we look to book seats or add things to the booking at a later date... as I say, no one real major concern just a number of things really. Just looking for some reassurance I guess

Fly with delta a fair bit as code share with KLM. Booking direct is no different to booking direct with any other these days, they nearly all split out baggage for certain ticket types so just be aware of what is included and what you have to add. Other than that I wouldn't have any concerns. Better service that most UK flag carriers.

Wish we'd just gone for it as looks like our dithering has cost us as fares now seem to have reverted back into line with VA fares. What was less than £600pp a couple of days ago LON-SFO end July and SAN-LON mid to late August is now £1000pp🤬 Guess we will just have yo wait for a sale to come along

Reassurance.
If you google you will find that Delta in fact own 49% of Virgin Atlantic with the other 51% being held by Virgin Holdings. Early next year, Air France are buying a further 31% of the Virgin shares. That will leave the company at Delta 49, Air France 31 and Virgin holdings 20%. Delta have a fleet of 860 aircraft, mainly based in the USA whilst Virgin Atlantic have 49. In every way, you should feel safer buying through Delta than buying through the much smaller and younger Virgin Atlantic. (Delta are a very old, blue chip airline, having been founded in 1924). I believe that many pay a huge premium to book through the Virgin site, purely because they have confidence in the brand and like the cuddly guy with the beard. The product is regarded as very 'British'. In truth, either are a first rate product and I would not hesitate to book from either... one that was cheaper. That on my last 3 visits has been direct through Delta! Hope it helps!
