Mobile About Ropedrops...

If youre not staying onside is a rope drop still an advantage if a parcs has early magical hours? I was thinking if a parc has early morning hours for hotel guests and opens only 1 or 2 hours later for regular guests wont the populair rope drop attractions be to crowded to still get advantage?
Or maybe is a Rope drop for non onsite guests just not possible?

Rope drop will work for you at parks that do not have Extra magic hours on.
We stay on site but dont really use emh we more do rope drop at a park without them. This is our normal plan when we go in July.
Although our next trip is Christmas so it will be all about the emh.

I would avoid EMH mornings. Even as someone staying onsite we basically found we got one ride done with minimal queues before the park started to get busy.

Very surprised at this. Every year Ive stayed onsite, including this, Ive got loads done in EMH. Im home by lunchtime. When did you go?

Last month. Some of it was our choice and some of it was down to the rides we dont do but I didnt find a huge advantage in one hour personally. Im not saying it doesnt suit others but an example is Epcot - Test Track was down during EMH when we went and Mission: Space doesnt open so the wait time for Soarin was posted as 35 minutes by the time we got there (through International Gateway and didnt get in until 8 so still had to walk to the ride). We got two rides done before the park opened to regular guests. DHS has such a queue just to get into Toy Story Land we ended up doing Star Tours as we dont do ToT or RnRC.

Interesting, for example my experience in July / August.
Epcot- (rope drop not EMH)- walked in at rope drop and went on Frozen, then Soarin, then fastpasses kicked in for Test Track. No queues.
HWS, 2 weeks after TSL opened- EMH- 30 min wait for slinky, straight on Toy Story MWM, straight on Rock and Roller, 10 mins wait at TOT.
MK- Straight on Space, Splash, Thunder and Haunted Mansion, no queue at all.

Ive always found rope drop and EMH to be great, but you are better off being at the front of the queue when it opens.

We didnt do MK and preferred to have an 8am BoG breakfast. We were able to do a couple of rides walk on with that. Were not really into being first in the queue for opening and would rather use an early breakfast to be in the park before opening.
Epcot was an issue for us as we had no FP booked however we did manage to single rider TT once it was up and did the other rides we wanted with minimal wait.
The thing with EMH for us in the past is that you dont have to be there for a certain time like an ADR so we tend to be more lax and often dont get there early enough to make a difference. This year we tried to make the effort but our DHS EMH was disappointing as there was a queue to get into Toy Story Land and wait times for the rides were longer than we like to wait.
Its not something were particularly bothered about but it doesnt necessarily work for everyone.

There will still be a small advantage because you'll still be there before most of the offsite guests who'll arrive later in the morning. However, it won't be as much of an advantage as when there isn't EMH on.

Usually, when not staying onsite, it is not recommended going to a park that has EMH. Instead, go to a different park that doesn't have EMH and get there for rope drop.

You still did 2 rides before offsite guests arrived though, and at least one of those was a tier 1 ride. Even if you only do one major ride in that first hour, it's still more than you would've done without that additional hour.

We always found that EMH was great. Sure, the queues for the headliner rides are reasonably long because that's where everyone is headed (but still shorter than after the offsite guests had arrived). But the queues elsewhere are usually short, so you can do a number of secondary rides with little to no wait in that first hour.

But thats not really worth it for us, to get up an hour early for one ride. The problem in Epcot was Test Track being down as everyone went to Soarin. Im not saying EMH doesnt work for some, it just didnt really work for us this visit and I definitely wouldnt go as an offsite guest as we found crowd levels much higher than non-EMH days.
