Evening in Birmingham - any recommendations?
We're taking DS & his friend up to Birmingham for a concert so have decided to stay there for the evening, any recommendations on what to do / where to eat please? We don't know the area at all.
Thank you

What venue is the concert at? The big venues are Arena Birmingham (soon to be renamed Utilita Arena) which is in the city centre and Resorts World Arena is further out. There are smaller venues in and around the city too. Happy to help but it’ll be useful to know the venue first

You've got plenty of choices then! That's a really central location so you're not far from China Town, The Mailbox, The Bullring or Victoria Square.
We park on Hurst Street car park when we're going to that part of the city (147 Hurst St, Birmingham B5 6SD). It's not the fanciest car park but it's good value. There are lots of other car parks around and The Mailbox car park would be a good location for O2 Academy. The Mailbox has a good selection of bars and restaurants - mailboxlife/ I like Gas Street Social and there's an Everyman Cinema there. The Bullring and Grand Central are shopping centres with restaurants and fast food type places. They're across the road from one another bullring/ The shops are open until 8pm (Mon - Sat). There is a big John Lewis in Grand Central and Selfridges in The Bullring. I've not eaten in China Town, well, apart from in Wetherspoons before going to the theatre. If you wanted to have a wander around, you could walk up to Victoria Square and through to Centenary Square. Again, plenty of bars and restaurants around there too and some fancy wine bars/cocktail bars. There's The Ivy Temple Row (lovely) and Gino D'Acampo My Restaurant has recently opened. I have simple tastes and like Pieminister, Lost and Found, Purecraft, The Wellington and the Post Office Vaults (pub). My sister is fancier and likes Purnell's (expensive), Purnell's bistro (more reasonable) and she went to Sabai Sabai yesterday and would recommend that. Hope that helps. |

You could see if there is anything on at the hippodrome (Close to the bullring and China Town) or the Alex?

What type of cuisine Jo? You’ve had some great suggestions already but happy to throw more in...

No idea to be honest, we'll probably head to where Beth suggested, have a wander and see what we fancy at the time May get time for a movie also as they'll be in the concert for at least 4 hours.
