We’ve done both and the adults and children all preferred GG.

Can only go on our experience but at CM the interaction was VERY rushed and the food was pretty much awful ( I’ve heard they have been trying harder with the food though ). It was very noisy and rushed on our visit, having said that my sister in law went back and said it wasn’t as bad.

GG for us we got to see all characters twice and spent longer with them, plus you get chip and dale which is a plus for us. Food was nice and served family style so you don’t have to keep getting up. The restaurant turns which is pretty cool too. Also it’s in the park so if you book an early breakfast you can be in before opening and get on some rides as they open.

I prefer GG and the food is better. However. If you’re only doing one I’d sacrifice the better food for the fab five characters especially with a five year old. The food is okay general buffet food at Chef Mickey. Mine loved it when they were that age.

Going against the grain here but we much preferred Chef Mickey. Yes it’s loud and rowdy but that’s precisely why we loved it- the atmosphere was vibrant - almost party like. It’s definately not somewhere to go for a quiet meal. Being a buffet, there was something for everyone and we thought the selection was very good with lots of fresh salads and great deserts. Character interaction was fab too - but then we prefer the classic characters. We didn’t feel rushed at all.

Whilst we liked Garden Grill, it’s once and done for us but we’d happily return to Chef Mickeys.

We really enjoyed both of them. If you want to do Chef Mickey, I would either book at late brunch reservation (2pm onwards), or an early dinner (5pm I think is the earliest), because they have a break between services it is quieter at this time. We have done Chef Mickey on all of our trips, as well as the 5 characters you also have the monorail passing through.

Garden Grill was good too, we asked for a booth, and also had a pre park opening reservation so went on Soarin before the crowds got there. The rotating aspect is a novelty too!
