Bergen for a weekend break

I’m thinking about going to Bergen with DH for a long weekend. It’s an hours flight which i though would be an advantage! Any advice would be really appreciated.

Where should we stay?
What’s the best way to transfer from the airport?
Do we need a car?
What is there to do?
What should we know before booking?

Hi they are very helpful on the Norway TripAdvisor forum. It rains a bit in Bergen.
We got a great deal on the Radisson Blu. There are a few options to get into the city centre - airport bus or light rail (or taxi, but this would be expensive). We enjoyed taking the funicular (Floibanen). Views from top were great. Remember in Norway, there is no Sunday trading. Small convenience stores will be open. When are you thinking of going

Thank you for your reply. We were thinking about August or September. Good tip about Sunday trading. Is that just shops, or does it cover touristy things too? Thanks.

Touristy stuff should be open on Sunday. Joker is a chain of convenience stores that should be open on Sunday. Restaurants and museums should be open.

Scandic is a chain of hotels throughout Norway. They do have good offers and offer discounts if you sign up to their reward programme. Thon and Nordic choice are two other chains.

Sounds fab! Are you doing Norway in a Nutshell (NiN) to Oslo? Or taking the train straight through? Have you booked your tickets (to avail of discounts?)
