It's a good idea to make it part of the holiday and take it easy.We have driven down from New Jersey and found stays in Charleston and Savannah we're really worthwhile.

We will likely do this year , and will do the drive in one go it's no longer than the once we do on the west coast yearly.

I'm off to charlotte in 6 weeks time and flights there aren't cheap , florida seems far cheaper .

3 flights from London - charlotte £2748, so we are going Glasgow - London -charlotte £1148 .

We drove from Orlando to Wilmington, NC and back again last month. We stopped one night each way in Savannah and Charleston. It was great to see a few different places along the way but if we were on our own DH probably would've done the 8 hour drive in one go as he's done it before from Las Vegas to Yosemite.

American Airlines had a good deal recently - Dublin to Charlotte with US Preclearance in Dublin. Just need a cheap return to Dublin.

If you time it carefully and limit your stop to just under 24 hours it's a free stop on the UK MCO fare. Just a thought.

I have to be in Charlotte on certain dates , had I been able to be a bit more flexible there were better deals to be had, but needs must.

I did look at flying up from East Midlands which is about 90 mins from my house to Glasgow but because we've booked so late those flights aren't so cheap really.

It is only supposed to be a cheap trip to see some friends and contacts out there and hopefully sort a few things out so we'll just have to live with the long and boring 311 mile to Glasgow.
