Help - API on United flight

Hey guys,
I need your help please, we have to do on line check in and I have done that but can't get boarding passes as I don't have all the passports to scan.
But I can't see where to put in passport info? The bit I thought I put it in says 'optional' and when I log out and log back in the passport info has gone?
I'm worried, arnt I supposed to do API 24 hours before flight?

It is OK, this will be done at the airport by check in staff

what are you trying to do it on, a PC or tablet. I know when we flew there was an app for the ipad and you scanned in the passport and hey presto everything else was done automatically. Saying that, got the airport and they ripped up what I had printed off and gave me boarding passes anyway !

We fly from Heathrow tomorrow with united and I spoke to them through Facebook regarding the same problem they said I can do it all at the airport tomorrow morning hope this helps and hope it's right as I was also worried it needed to be done 24 hours before too .
