Steve - not wanting argue but our last 3 flights we have been on have been automatic. (BA). They make announcements to this effect once you are down.

Second time on Jet2 a family were sold multi packs of can from the service trolley, but they were handed out one at a time. They started shouting, not following instructions, standing in groups drinking by the exits(which the people sitting there didn't like and allowing their children to play tick in the aisles. They caused a real ruckus when told they couldnt have the rest of their drinks and could collect them as they exited the plane. They same group were a problem coming home and were aggressive and racially abusive to staff while waiting to collect their luggage. Nothing was done.

The third time, again Jet2, a group of lads were got drunk on the voucher we were given for a delay. They were told a good 30 minutes before the gate opened that they wouldn't be flying and were escorted away. They never got on the plane and that's how it should be.
Our worst flight experience with drunks was about 10 years ago with Jet2, Manchester to Tenerife. Passengers got pretty well oiled in the terminal after there was delay due a fault in the plane. Many should not have been allowed to board in my view. One fool lit a cigarette as he walked across the tarmac from the terminal to the plane (no air tunnel in use). Yes, that's right, as he walked past the refuelling tanker and fuel line - he was removed from the plane as understandably this is against the law. He was drunk and unco-operative so wouldn't tell them what his suitcase looked like. We spent a further hour on the plane while they identified his suitcase and removed it. After take-off numerous passengers continued to party, shouting obscenities (lots of young children on board, including ours so this was horrible), generally being vile as they consumed a lot of drink. The cabin crew continued to serve them, which shocked me but I do think that regardless of safety issues some budget airlines will serve alcohol when they shouldn't as it is a lucrative income stream for them. It was without doubt the worst 4.5 hours on a plane I have ever spent. Every time I see a Jet2 advert on TV, I shudder and think never again.

Totally agree with you, Geoff.

I was horrified when they showed the Lounges, drink what you want, I always thought they serviced passengers in those places. When we travel to Florida, I don't drink as I take too many tablets and Lesley only has a wine with her main meal even if we are in Club. We always wander those that drink a lot, are they picking a car up at the other end.

Must admit I was surprised by that too, not been in a lounge at airport but I always thought you were served your drinks

We used No 1 at Birmingham last year and it wasn't a 'help yourself' bar. I am another who cannot understand why people want alcohol for breakfast, but each to their own. Maybe if you could get 2 drinks and your boarding pass gets stamped?

I would hate to be on a flight like the one shown

Shocked at what I've just seen. As said in an earlier post , take the passport off them. If it was known that all airlines would put your details on a database and ban you from flying then it might stop.

The help yourself bars are the ones where you need a frequent flyer membership at a fairly high tier to be admitted so I suppose it's self regulating as cancellation of membership would void all your miles so a good incentive to not make a nusience of yourself.
