Naples & Marco Island

Evening Dibbers

One possible scenario with our August Florida keys and cruise trip is that we are able to fly to the USA and tour the keys, but our cruise from Miami is not able to sail (I really can’t predict when cruises might resume). If that happens, we will have 6 days to spend in the southern florida area. We will have already spent 3 nights in south beach, would 6 nights in the Naples/Marco Island be time well spent? Any other suggestions of a place worthy of a 3 or 6 night stay? Thanks for any opinions.

Yes absolutely it’s worth spending 6 nights we tend to stay on Marco for the island laid back feel and it’s easy enough to get to Naples from there as well

If you wanted a little bit of Disney, you could spend a couple of nights at Vero Beach.

Great is there plenty to do in the local area? We will obviously have a car for days out, but also quite like to walk or take bikes out, and in the evenings we like a good meal out and then a few glasses of wine on a balcony or by the waters edge... heaven!

Marco Island is beautiful. Relaxing and chilled out.

However, FOR ME Naples has the edge, especially if you are there for 5 or 6 days. There is just more to do locally. It has the convenience of an American city with good shopping, loads of your usual chain restaurants and also some fantastic independent restaurants. On top of that, it still has the stunning beaches with the fine gulf coast sand and a lovely pier to wander down.

We generally stay a week or so in Naples every year and use the car for the relatively short drive to Marco for a day trip.

Thanks so much for this info, I think Naples looks like the right destination for us, what area would you recommend staying in? Not sure whether we need to be right in the centre, or whether it’s just as easy to base ourselves a little bit outside. We are happy to go out and explore in the car, or on foot/bikes but would like to be able to stroll for dinner and drinks in the evening. Have looked at Naples Bay resort as we could walk to shops, restaurants etc from here, or Park Shore resort which has condos and a nice pool/bar area, but is a little way out.

No problem.

I have stayed at Naples Bay Resort the last few times I've been and it's fantastic. Next door is Tin City on the water for a couple of nice restaurants and 5th Avenue with the higher end restaurants and shops is around a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Also stayed at the Bellasera which was lovely and within a walk of the 5th Avenue area.

To be honest, location of your hotel depends on how happy you are to drive. The main chain restaurants and shopping mall are a few miles away from the older part of Naples (5th avenue) and spread along the main road (US41) so you would need to be driving there. Certainly somewhere like Park Shore Resort (stayed there many many years ago) needs a car to get pretty much anywhere but the driving is easy and straightforward.

Naples is our favourite place. We usually stay at the Bellasera in an apartment. The nearer you are to 5th Avenue, the more expensive the hotels get, that said, if you can get a deal for the Inn on Fifth, it’s fabulous!
