Good point, for some reason that had slipped my mind (which is shocking given how much of everyone's day is consumed with this damn virus)

Every employer should have a policy on snow days but currently you have to add in whether it is an essential journey or not.
Perhaps you employer could pay for you to go on a skid course to get you confidence up generally.

I doubt it happens enough to justify the expense

A bit of advice when you come to change your tyres go for all weather ones. Not as good as full winter but you will have a lot more traction in snow and ice then summer ones that are fitted to the majority of cars.

I once got into trouble for telling a customer they were just closing the main road due to snow (which they were as it's a hill). Turned out it was a senior manager working from home doing a mystery shopper call. I still don't think I did anything wrong and it went no further.

I remember going into work in the snow as I didn’t have far to go and the boss stating that anyone who didn’t turn up would have to take a day of their holidays to make up.

I would expect that to be fairly standard. It is up to the employee to make sure they can get to work... if the weather is bad, the car breaks down, the bus doesn't run, it is usually still expected that you turn up to work.

At mine you turn up, or ring in sick, or arrange cover. If I can't get there the job still needs doing. Not turning up because the weather makes it inconvenient means you pass the inconvenience to someone else. And unless you are sick, you have to find the someone else to inconvenience. Very rare occurrence.

I remember having to walk the 2 miles to work in a blizzard when I was 8 months pregnant with dd as I couldn't get the car up the hill to get out of the road we lived in. My boss had zero sympathy so I had no option. I really enjoyed telling him where to shove his job when I left the company.

Could they not have got you a taxi?

I hate driving in the snow- luckily we dont get it much. Last time it snowed while i was at work and i had trouble getting home. I live at top of a steep hill, theres no way i would attempt to drive or even walk to bus stop.
