Hi. New passport means new Esta. Just apply like you did previously for his. No need to apply for whole family unless you have new passports too.

New passport - new esta, can't update your just need to apply for a new one for your son, sounds like you done a group esta last time but that was just for ease of payment, all applications are individual.

You need to apply for a new Esta for your son as it is linked to passport number. New passport = New Esta.
As long as the rest of your parties Estas are still valid you don't need to do anything with them.

I had a quick google and explored the same options I'd consider here. - no price matching or anything like that. Just 2 mins search to get an idea.
I presumed car hire would be cheapest... £85 for Fri25th- Monday 28th August from ALamo brits (3 days ), bus might be cheaper, but not give you flexibility as car does while there.

All these 3 I just googled the route and saw prices in the results. I didn't pay much attention to dates. Presumably these are per person as well.
Bus trips airport to airport look to be about $20 !
Train - $40
Flights £100 (pounds!)

P.S. Just the one ESTA for your son...remember to go in the official site
