because all the chavs will ignore the rules and take advantage of it

OP think of the worst place you have ever driven (for me the M25) and Florida doesn't come close to it

As others have said, driving in Florida is quite a calm experience compared to over here. In my experience there are less aggressive drivers and people stick to the limits which are slower than ours.

The right turn at a red light is a bit unnerving the first time. Just make sure there are no pedestrians crossing. The worst that happens is that the car behind you might beep if you’re being too hesitant but don’t let that worry you.

I think the trickiest thing for me driving in Florida has been the weather from time to time. Sometimes it can be absolutely chucking it down with rain which makes visibility very difficult especially when joining a big road. Also if there’s lightning that can be off putting. If in doubt at all, just pull over into one of the many shops/restaurant car parks and wait till it calms down, then carry on. You’ll be safe in the car.

I took my son over their last may and drove us around for 2 weeks. It was so much easier than I thought it would be and I really enjoyed driving.

I watched some youtube videos of the drive from the airport to Disney (I was staying onsite) so I was familiar with the initial drive.

Take a drive in DC in rush hour. It's way worse than the 25.

Best tip I got was the driver is always towards the middle of the road. (Exactly same as here). So when your at junctions visualise your finishing point near to middle of road.

Haven't had the pleasure, but I can imagine.

My brother goes to Italy quite a bit and claims the Italian city drivers will just run over pedestrians if they cross the road in their way. He witnessed one old lady just get struck and knocked off her feet and the driver was angry she got in his way. Driver had plenty of time to stop but just drove into her as if he had the right to do so

It really is not something to worry about, as others have said you will end up enjoying driving in Florida, spend 10 mins acquainting yourself with the controls etc before you leave the Rental garage.

Or keep your front seat passenger on the kerb side.

Also four way stops, the vehicle that is there first has right of way and you must come to a complete stop.

My tip which i still have to do even after years of driving and serves me well.

when approaching a junctions whether turning left or right just say to your self and keep repeating passenger on the curb, passenger on curb. after a day or two it just becomes second nature.

in all honestly just take it slow, the first time we went my now wife had to do all the driving as she was the only one who had her licence for over a year. She had never even been to america before let alone drive and she was perfectly fine.

if you have a a chance to pick your own car try sitting in a few before you finally decide on what you want don't let any body rush you also as much as it can be tempting to pick a nice new car if they have something you recognise or have driven before pick that (ie focus, mondeo/fusion vero/note) some of the names might be different but inside they will feel familiar.

honestly take it slow think and all will be good.
