Alamo - Aug costs higher?

Hi all
We've booked through Alamo for our last 3 trips in May and for our Aug 18 trip, the car hire costs are almost double to what we've paid previously. Is this simply the Aug factor or have prices really changed that much since last year?
thanks

It depends who you are booking with and when you book. I have paid the same for this Aug as I did last year within a £ or so. But I booked 12 months out.
What prices are you getting for what car size and dates?
Some sites include the mid Aug price surge and some don't

Same here, I've tried to book through Alamo Brits but the price for an Intermediate is £372.
I have a booking now with Budget for the same car at £265.
I always book with Alamo as i like to 'Skip The Counter', now i wish i had booked earlier.
I still check on a daily basis just in case. I can cancel my Budget booking at any time.

Both Netfights and Andy that advertises here on the dibb tend to have the better Alamo prices, think the August price surge drops off on the 16th so can save money by doing two separate bookings ( if you don't mind the hassle of changing the car half way through ) although when we were looking for a seven seater even after the 16th once the early prices had gone the cost virtually doubled over night

Thanks. We are being quoted around £500 for an intermediate car for 2 weeks from 14th Aug. That's with Alamo Brits who we have used on the last 3 trips. We usually pay just under £300.

£375.31p with Virgin Atlantic as a stand alone hire. 2 drivers included.

Have a look at Netflights, Andy who advertises on here, Auto Europe and uscarhire.

We have only recently booked flights for August and are finding car hire really expensive.

We are looking for a 7 seater from mid august to the start of september and what I’ve noticed is that after the 20th the price drops for our dates.

Will check out some of the recommendations on this thread.

Thanks

Alamo's peak-season price applies to your whole rental period, even if it's just a few days - somehow, Virgin Atlantic (who use Alamo) get round this: our boking for 14 nights' rental of an Int SUV is £410 VA/Alamo, whilst Alamo Brits was coming in at over £700. Netflights and DFCH were similar to Brits.

Edit to add, just checked Brits after seeing the OP's price, and an Int SUV is now £457 on Brits - that's come down a lot - but still not enough to cancel the VA and rebook...
