Thanks for all your help Rachel, I'm a lot further forward than I was! Just need to find out for sure about expiry date and then hopefully I'm sorted!

I have had a quick look and as you say the US website doesn't specify the year.

I have looked at the OA website which has a one day base ticket for $92 inc tax and they state

"Price valid for 2012 and 2013. Please specify your Travel Date when ordering to ensure correct tickets are issued."

US website is $95.87 inc tax but I am sure OA send real tickets out so that might be a help.

In the FAQs on Universal's website it says:

Q: Do tickets expire?
A: Unused tickets that are not date specific generally do not expire. However, tickets may be subject to specific expiration conditions based on first use or ticket type. Please refer to the Complete Ticket Details for your desired ticket type for details.

Like Disney's MYW tickets, Universal's day tickets are not date specific and so will not expire until you use them.

You're able to print the ticket off at home and use this at the turnstiles - you don't have to go to Guest Services or anything.

Or... as Nail Queen says, you could always buy a 1 day Universal ticket from Orlando Attractions. I think it's slightly cheaper than buying from Universal, once tax is added on.
